One ambitious day.
On the first day of this year, January 1st 2009, I settled on few important decisions, or rather one big life choice. I decided I wanted to see more of the world and do more. I was tired of the mundane lecture and lab system of my university and I craved a more nurturing educational experience. To actively deal with my building frustration of the traditional education system, I applied to three programs. If accepted, they would occupy all my time for over a year. The first was a four month summer job in world class research centre where I’d work on a cure for gliboblastoma multiforme, a rare but deadly brain cancer. The second was a semester of marine biology to complete my upper level science credits at a research station in the isolated small town of Bamfield. The last and most intensive application was for an exchange to the country of my heritage, the Netherlands, where I signed up for courses in Dutch language, culture, art, and history.
